The XTERRA Solstice Triathlon is part of the XTERRA America tour. This event boasts one of the most beautiful courses and is quickly gaining its' reputation as one of the toughest XTERRA Points Series Race. We encourage all XTERRA athletes to try this event though DNF's are common. The course is challenging and not for the inexperienced. Whiners are not allowed. We pride ourselves on building the toughest bike and run courses possible.  As an XTERRA event, you will need to purchase a one day USAT Insurance package if you have not purchased the yearly coverage.
The Swim (1k):
The Solstice Triathlon is an XTERRA Points Series Race. The off-road event will begin with a 1K swim at 4100 ft. The water is not freezing but Wet/dry suits are definately recommended as are neoprene hats and earplugs.

The Bike (25k):

After a chilly swim in Morgan Lake, the bike leg starts off with a FAST, rocky and muddy decent dumping you onto a fire road. Be carefull here. It's not worth ending your race before it even starts. Then the main long and sustained climb of the course (3+ miles). Once at the top you will encounter the endo proviking Suicide Hill.  If you are lucky enough to survive the descent down Suicide Hill, you will be rewarded with uncharted back country beauty punctuated with a a ladder crossing, some fast singletrack and our "rock gardens".  After flying down the lower meadow, you will then climb up the steep section you came down at the start. It is ridable but many end up walking the last portion of it. Can you ride to the top?

The Run (10k):

Course Map

Technical, ankle twisting. Here you will need to gather any remaining strength to concentrate on your footing. Focus is key for the run leg. The panoramic view on the run course is visible for miles, although it's tough to take your eyes off from where you're stepping. From Morgan Lake you will descend into the rocky elk "pasture" which will take you on a loop back up and out.  Be ready for a good climb.
